New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Saturday that the Delhi government has declared November 25th (Tuesday) a public holiday to commemorate the 350th martyrdom day of the ninth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. This information was given in an official release.

The Delhi Chief Minister’s Office stated that this decision aims to provide citizens with an opportunity to pay tribute to Guru Tegh Bahadur’s supreme sacrifice, spiritual teachings, and his unwavering commitment to protecting humanity and religious freedom. Guru Tegh Bahadur Singh was the ninth Sikh Guru. In 1675, he was executed in Delhi on the orders of Aurangzeb for refusing to convert to Islam.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that Guru Tegh Bahadur’s life is an eternal example of courage in the face of tyranny, religious persecution, and injustice. She said that Guru Sahib was not only a revered Sikh Guru but also a guardian of universal human values. “Guru Tegh Bahadur sacrificed his life to protect India’s religious freedom and gave the message that truth and righteousness must be defended at any cost,” the Chief Minister said.

He further stated that Guru Sahib’s martyrdom represents an immortal chapter in Indian history, reminding people that true humanity lies in protecting the dignity and rights of others, no matter the cost. The Chief Minister stated that Guru Tegh Bahadur’s message of courage, compassion, tolerance, brotherhood, and respect for all religions remains highly relevant even today, more than three centuries after his martyrdom.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, recalling Guru Tegh Bahadur’s personality and achievements, said that Guru Tegh Bahadur’s life will always inspire us to build a just, peaceful, and egalitarian society. She stated that this public holiday is not merely a formality, but a humble tribute from the Delhi Government to Guru Sahib’s sacrifice. The Chief Minister appealed to all citizens to observe this day with a spirit of reverence, unity, and service, and to imbibe Guru Sahib’s teachings in their lives.
