Cyclone Ditwa: An alert has been issued in various districts of Tamil Nadu due to Cyclone Ditwa. The storm is expected to make landfall by November 30. Meanwhile, schools in Tiruchi, Thanjavur, and Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu have declared a holiday. Puducherry University has also postponed all examinations scheduled for Saturday, November 29.

A release from the Central University of Puducherry stated, “In accordance with the communication received from the Coast Guard District, Puducherry, and the advisory-circular dated November 27, it is notified that all classes and examinations scheduled for November 29 are postponed.” The revised schedule for postponed examinations will be announced in due course.

Will schools remain closed in Chennai and other districts?

Schools in Chennai and various parts of Tamil Nadu are expected to remain closed on Monday, December 1, due to Cyclone Ditwa, expected to make landfall on Sunday, November 30. However, as there is no official notification regarding this, students and parents are advised to contact their school administration before attending school.

Meteorological Department Issues Alert

According to the Regional Meteorological Center (RMC), Chennai, Cyclone Ditwa is slowly moving northward and is expected to reach the southwest Bay of Bengal by the morning of November 30. Cyclone Ditwa is expected to cause heavy to very heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on November 29-30, and in the coastal Andhra Pradesh-Rayalaseema region from November 29 to December 1.

The IMD has previously issued orange and yellow weather alerts for several districts in Tamil Nadu for the next two to three days. A detailed list of districts including Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, Virudhunagar, Theni, Madurai, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Karur, Salem, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Kallakurichi, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Ranipet and Vellore along with Puducherry and Karaikal has been released.
