Gogabil Lake, located in the Manihari block of Katihar, has become the sixth Ramsar site in the state and the 94th in the country. This has given global recognition to Bihar’s tourism and biodiversity. Now, the possibilities for eco-tourism here have increased significantly.
Katihar: Gogabil Lake in Manihari, Katihar district, has been listed as a Ramsar site of international importance. This is a very special opportunity for the growth of Bihar tourism. It has become the sixth Ramsar wetland of Bihar and the 94th of the country, which will strengthen the presence of not only Katihar but the entire state on the global tourism map.
Very special for migratory birds
Spread over 86.63 hectares in the lap of the Ganges and Mahananda rivers, this area is home to more than 30 species of migratory birds and more than 60 species of native birds every year between November and February. Their numbers used to be even higher, but continuous efforts in the direction of conservation have once again made this site a global center of attraction.
The district will get global recognition
Katihar District Magistrate Manesh Kumar Meena described this achievement as very encouraging, saying that the inclusion of Gogabil Lake in the Ramsar site is a matter of pride for the district. Dr. Raj Aman Singh, a founding member of the Gogabil Lake Development Committee, expressed his happiness on this recognition, saying that Gogabil Lake has now received international recognition.
