Huge influx of devotees gathered at the Char Dham shrines

Uttarakhand’s Char Dham Yatra reached new heights of faith, belief, and enthusiasm this year. This six-month-long spiritual journey broke all previous pilgrimage records.

So far, over 5.1 million pilgrims have visited the four Dhams during the 2025 Yatra, significantly exceeding the 4.8 million last year. This unprecedented influx of devotees has taken the Char Dham Yatra to new heights.

Badrinath Dham will close for the winter season on November 25th

The Yatra began on April 30, 2025, with the opening of the doors of Yamunotri and Gangotri shrines. This was followed by the opening of the doors of Kedarnath on May 2nd and Badrinath on May 4th. Like every year, this year too, the four holy shrines witnessed a massive influx of devotees. Currently, the doors of Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri shrines are closed, while Badrinath shrine will close for the winter season on November 25th.

During the winter season, the Devasthanam Board and the administration conduct pujas at the four holy shrines at their winter seat sites. Meanwhile, the government is placing special emphasis on promoting the Winter Chardham Yatra, ensuring that devotees remain connected to the spiritual environment year-round and the local economy is strengthened.

17.68 Lakh Devotees Visited Kedarnath This Year

The biggest attractions of the pilgrimage this year were Kedarnath and Badrinath shrines, where a record number of devotees arrived. Kedarnath received 17.68 lakh devotees, significantly higher than last year’s figure of 16.51 lakh. Meanwhile, the number of devotees at Badrinath shrine reached over 16.52 lakh, compared to 14.35 lakh last year. These figures have further strengthened the popularity of religious tourism in Uttarakhand.

Although disaster-induced conditions in Uttarkashi district impacted the pilgrimage to Gangotri and Yamunotri, resulting in relatively fewer devotees reaching there, 7.58 lakh pilgrims visited Gangotri and 6.44 lakh pilgrims visited Yamunotri. Meanwhile, 2.74 lakh pilgrims visited Hemkund Sahib.

The administration is rapidly working to popularize the pilgrimage.

The 2025 Chardham Yatra was historic in many ways as huge influx of devotees gathered at the Char Dham shrines. Not only did the number of devotees increase, but significant steps were also taken to improve the facilities, security, and management of the pilgrimage. Now, the administration is rapidly working to popularize the winter pilgrimage, so that devotees can experience the spiritual experience of the Devbhoomi with ease and safety in every season.

Ram Mandir tourism is increasing daily

PM Modi Ayodhya Ram Mandir Flag Hoisting: Tourism in Ayodhya has seen a boom since the consecration of the Ram Temple in January 2024. It is now estimated that this will generate revenue of ₹18,000 crore by 2028. Tourism is expected to increase even further after the flag hoisting ceremony in Ayodhya.

The flag hoisting ceremony in Ayodhya was held on November 25th by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It should be noted that the city’s tourism currently generates revenues between ₹80 million and ₹12,500 crore annually from the hospitality, transportation, retail, and service sectors.

Sources indicate that Uttar Pradesh’s total tourism economy could reach ₹700 billion by 2028, with Ayodhya alone contributing 25%, or approximately ₹18,000 crore. The central and state governments are spending approximately ₹5,000 crore on development projects in Ayodhya.

From January to June 2025, 230 million tourists visited Ayodhya, and 500 million are expected by December. Since the construction of the Ram Temple, Ayodhya has played a significant role in Uttar Pradesh’s economy. Furthermore, the Sun God is depicted on the flag of the Ram Temple, which will further attract tourists.

Additionally, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is launching several initiatives to achieve a $1 trillion economy in Uttar Pradesh by 2029. Ayodhya tourism will play a crucial role in this mission. Since the construction of the Ram Temple, the number of tourists in Ayodhya has increased significantly. It’s worth noting that approximately 2,150 crore rupees have been spent on the construction of the Ram Temple so far.

Not only this, hotels, restaurants, various shops, tool and travel, puja material, and prasad businesses in Ayodhya are generating even greater profits. Seeing the increasing number of tourists in Ayodhya, more than 76 hotels have opened so far. Furthermore, many private hotels are also continuously investing in Ayodhya.

Following the flag hoisting ceremony, the number of devotees is expected to increase even further. This is expected to boost local businesses, small-scale industries, and handicrafts.

  • The Red Fort blast has dealt another major blow to Jammu and Kashmir tourism, which had been crippled by the Pahalgam attack

Major blow to Jammu and Kashmir tourism, Red Fort blast

The situation has worsened following reports of Kashmiri youth being involved in the terror attack, raising concerns among tourists, a major blow to Jammu and Kashmir tourism.

Major blow to Jammu and Kashmir tourism

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir, already grappling with a tourism crisis after the Pahalgam attack, has suffered another major blow with the blast at the Red Fort. According to tourism professionals, reports of several Kashmiri youth being involved in the blast have further worsened the situation, raising concerns among would-be tourists.

The sector had shown signs of improvement in October, impacted by early snowfall and government efforts. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had expressed hope that good weather would help revive the industry after months of uncertainty. This hope was dashed on November 10 when at least 12 people were killed in an alleged suicide car bomb attack by a Kashmiri doctor in Delhi. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) said it had arrested six people, who were linked to a white-collar terror module. The group also included two Kashmiri doctors working outside the Union Territory.

Sajjad Ahmed, owner of a 20-room budget hotel in Gulmarg, said, “This is another blow for us. Visitors are very few. People are hesitant to come because of the involvement of some Kashmiris in the Delhi blast and the sudden blast at the Nowgam police station.”

Tourism had already suffered a setback after the April 22 attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran Maidan, which killed 26 people, most of them tourists. Authorities closed more than 50 tourist spots, so tourists left the valley. After a security review, about 28 of these spots reopened, and travel operators said they saw a slight increase in visitors during the holiday and festival season.

Sajjad said, “Tourism had picked up somewhat in October, but the blast has created uncertainty again.” Currently, occupancy is barely between two and five percent.’ Kashmir has seen record tourist arrivals over the past three years. Official figures show that 3.498 million tourists visited the valley last year, compared to 3.155 million in 2023 and 2.673 million in 2022. This year, before the Pahalgam attack, tourist numbers had already crossed six million, but have since declined to a few thousand, it is a major blow to Jammu and Kashmir tourism.

Despite the slowdown, industry leaders and government officials say they expect a recovery with the arrival of winter. The Jammu and Kashmir government is participating in the 56th International Film Festival of India in Goa. At a tourism event in Srinagar on Friday, Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board Chairperson Darakshan Andrabi said that winter sports could help revive the industry after major blow to Jammu and Kashmir tourism.

She said, “Tourist arrivals have been good since 2019, but recent events have led to a decline.” I hope the Khelo India Winter Games and the snowy weather in Gulmarg will attract visitors. I don’t think any hotels will be empty this winter.

Farooq Kuthu, former president of the Travel Agents Association of Kashmir and a well-known tourism stakeholder, expressed similar hopes. He said that winter traditionally sees visitors from southern states, especially IT professionals who travel during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

He said, “The Red Fort bombing was another blow to the sector, but there have been no cancellations or changes to bookings. Because of this, we are hopeful that the winter season will be better than the summer. The government’s efforts are also helping. Hope remains intact.”
