The Education Department of the Government of Bihar has released the annual holiday schedule for all government, state-run, nationalized, project, higher elementary, secondary, and higher secondary schools (including Sanskrit, Urdu, and Madrasa schools) for the year 2026. According to the list, a total of 75 days of holidays have been scheduled for 2026, including 10 Sundays. Sanjay R.A.O., Director (Secondary), Education Department, has issued a notification in this regard.
The holiday schedule includes all major festivals and government holidays, from Makar Sankranti to Diwali, Chhath, and winter vacation.
According to the list, Makar Sankranti will be celebrated on January 14, Basant Panchami on January 23, Republic Day on January 26, Sant Ravidas Jayanti on February 1, Mahashivratri on February 15, and Holi on March 3-4.
Similarly, several festivals have been included in March and April.
Longest Holidays in June
According to the notification, there will be a 20-day summer vacation from June 1 to June 20, which includes two Sundays. Winter vacation has been declared at the end of the year from December 25 to December 31, totaling seven days.
Long Holidays for Durga Puja and Diwali
Durga Puja holidays will be from October 17 to 21, totaling five days. Diwali, Chitragupta Puja, and Chhath festivals will include a 10-day holiday from November 7 to November 17.
Special instructions have been issued to ensure that students’ academic work is not affected
The Education Department has stated that all schools will celebrate the annual function, Republic Day, Independence Day, and Gandhi Jayanti, and schools will remain open on these days. Schools will close only after the events are over.
Furthermore, instructions have been issued that students will be assigned homework during the summer vacation, Diwali and Chhath holidays, and winter vacation, and this work will be evaluated when schools reopen.
Also, the dates of Muslim festivals may change depending on the sighting of the moon.
The Education Department has directed all District Education Officers, District Program Officers, and schools to ensure school operations are conducted according to the holiday schedule.
