  • Kashi Tamil Sangam 2025: South Indian tourist numbers rise in Varanasi, boosting business

    Kashi Tamil Sangam 2025

Kashi Tamil Sangam 2025: BHU Assistant Professor Jagdishan said that Varanasi’s changing facilities are contributing the most to this.

    Kashi Tamil Sangam 2025

Varanasi: The government is striving to bring the North and South together through the Kashi Tamil Sangam, and the impact is being felt on Kashi’s tourism landscape. Indeed, based on data from the past four years, Varanasi has seen a 50 to 60 percent increase in South Indian tourist arrivals since the Sangam.

Currently, a large number of South Indians are visiting Kashi and undertaking various religious pilgrimages. This is also due to PM Modi’s vision of a changing Kashi, which South Indians are greatly appreciating. They are delighted with the changing Kashi and its facilities.

Increased tourism: Santosh Singh, a member of the tourism organization, says that if we look at the graph of South Indian travelers, it has increased rapidly after the construction of the Vishwanath Corridor and the launch of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam. Previously, 30,000 to 40,000 tourists visited Kashi, but now one to one and a half lakh South Indian tourists are arriving every month.

He says that the decline in foreign tourists had set back tourism in Varanasi, but domestic tourism, especially South Indian tourists, has kept this graph afloat. Whether it’s Kumbh or normal tourism in Varanasi, the tourism industry is booming today due to South Indian travelers. Businesses associated with tourism have also seen an increase.

He explains that domestic tourism has given a new dimension to tourism in Varanasi. This is why we are also tailoring packages to suit the convenience of South Indian travelers. Previously, they would simply visit the temple and leave, but now they prefer luxury packages. People are staying in major hotels in Varanasi and enjoying their travels. They are also traveling to nearby destinations, primarily due to the increasing facilities and amenities in Varanasi.

Kashi Tamil Sangam 2025: The changing image of Kashi is gaining popularity: Jagdishan, Assistant Professor at Banaras Hindu University, says that the Kashi Tamil Sangamam has exchanged numerous tourist destinations and cultures from the South and North, showcasing not only religious but also diverse dimensions. Varanasi is currently a major hub for South Indian cinema. Stars from the South are coming to Varanasi to promote their films. The changing facilities in Varanasi have contributed significantly to this.

He explained that after the construction of the Vishwanath Corridor through the Kashi Tamil Sangamam, South Indian tourists who visit Varanasi often talk about the facilities, arrangements, and new developments taking place in South India, which the people there are liking. Previously, connectivity was a problem here, and the infrastructure wasn’t very developed, which led to a low tourist population. However, the current pace of development has given South Indian tourists a new perspective on Varanasi, resulting in a steady increase.

It’s worth noting that domestic tourism in Varanasi has grown rapidly since the construction of the Vishwanath Corridor, with South Indian tourists contributing significantly. Four years ago, the government launched the Kashi Tamil Sangamam, which strengthened the connection between the South and the North, leading to a significant increase in the number of tourists visiting Kashi from the South. Previously, South Indian tourists had been visiting Kashi, but they were typically religious visitors for a day. However, now this number has increased, and they are coming to Varanasi not only for religious purposes but also for sightseeing and leisure. The changing image of Kashi is a major contributor.

  • Uttarakhand: This year, such a huge influx of devotees gathered at the Char Dham shrines… even the administration was surprised!

huge influx of devotees gathered at the Char Dham

Uttarakhand(huge influx of devotees gathered at the Char Dham shrines): A record number of over 5.1 million pilgrims visited the 2025 Char Dham Yatra. Now, with the doors closed, the focus is on winter pilgrimage, which will boost the local economy.

Huge influx of devotees gathered at the Char Dham shrines

Uttarakhand’s Char Dham Yatra reached new heights of faith, belief, and enthusiasm this year. This six-month-long spiritual journey broke all previous pilgrimage records.

So far, over 5.1 million pilgrims have visited the four Dhams during the 2025 Yatra, significantly exceeding the 4.8 million last year. This unprecedented influx of devotees has taken the Char Dham Yatra to new heights.

Badrinath Dham will close for the winter season on November 25th

The Yatra began on April 30, 2025, with the opening of the doors of Yamunotri and Gangotri shrines. This was followed by the opening of the doors of Kedarnath on May 2nd and Badrinath on May 4th. Like every year, this year too, the four holy shrines witnessed a massive influx of devotees. Currently, the doors of Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri shrines are closed, while Badrinath shrine will close for the winter season on November 25th.

During the winter season, the Devasthanam Board and the administration conduct pujas at the four holy shrines at their winter seat sites. Meanwhile, the government is placing special emphasis on promoting the Winter Chardham Yatra, ensuring that devotees remain connected to the spiritual environment year-round and the local economy is strengthened.

17.68 Lakh Devotees Visited Kedarnath This Year

The biggest attractions of the pilgrimage this year were Kedarnath and Badrinath shrines, where a record number of devotees arrived. Kedarnath received 17.68 lakh devotees, significantly higher than last year’s figure of 16.51 lakh. Meanwhile, the number of devotees at Badrinath shrine reached over 16.52 lakh, compared to 14.35 lakh last year. These figures have further strengthened the popularity of religious tourism in Uttarakhand.

Although disaster-induced conditions in Uttarkashi district impacted the pilgrimage to Gangotri and Yamunotri, resulting in relatively fewer devotees reaching there, 7.58 lakh pilgrims visited Gangotri and 6.44 lakh pilgrims visited Yamunotri. Meanwhile, 2.74 lakh pilgrims visited Hemkund Sahib.

The administration is rapidly working to popularize the pilgrimage.

The 2025 Chardham Yatra was historic in many ways as huge influx of devotees gathered at the Char Dham shrines. Not only did the number of devotees increase, but significant steps were also taken to improve the facilities, security, and management of the pilgrimage. Now, the administration is rapidly working to popularize the winter pilgrimage, so that devotees can experience the spiritual experience of the Devbhoomi with ease and safety in every season.

The flag hoisting ceremony in Ayodhya was held on November 25th by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It should be noted that the city’s tourism currently generates revenues between ₹80 million and ₹12,500 crore annually from the hospitality, transportation, retail, and service sectors.

Sources indicate that Uttar Pradesh’s total tourism economy could reach ₹700 billion by 2028, with Ayodhya alone contributing 25%, or approximately ₹18,000 crore. The central and state governments are spending approximately ₹5,000 crore on development projects in Ayodhya.

Why temple has been receiving a gun salute?

History of Orchha Ram Raja Temple: Madhya Pradesh is home to thousands of tourist destinations, attracting visitors from both the country and abroad. The primary reason for this is the presence of numerous historical and religious sites, which are constantly crowded. One such temple attracts visitors from both the country and abroad. Its most significant feature is that Lord Ram is worshipped here. It is said that for the past 500 years, MP police personnel have been issuing gun salutes here. It is said that this temple holds not only religious but also historical significance. This 500-year-old tradition continues to this day. Here, Lord Shri Ram is worshipped as a king. Let’s explain the mystery behind this.

Furthermore, a gun salute has been given daily at this temple by Madhya Pradesh Police personnel for the past 500 years. It is said that in the 16th century, Maharani Kunwari brought the idol of Lord Ram from Ayodhya and installed it in this temple.

Specially, no VIP, leader, or official is given a guard of honor here. Be it the Prime Minister or the President, only King Ram has the right to salute. This is why Orchha is considered the only place in the world where God is worshipped as a king.

Located in Orchha district, Niwari district, this temple is built in the Bundela architectural style. On the other side is the famous Orchha Fort. It is said that the queen of Orchha brought the idol of the deity from Ayodhya on foot. The queen’s name was Ganeshkunra, and the king’s name was Madhuraksh. One crore rupees will be spent on this ashram to promote tourism here. Similarly, tourism development is assured with the help of Rs. 1 crore for the Ram Laxman Kuti Temple in the Zahurabad Assembly constituency, Rs. 75 lakh for the Shivalaya in Basdevpur in the Muhammadabad Assembly constituency, Rs. 1 crore for the Shiva Temple (Garib Das Kuti) in Mirdadpur in Jangipur,

Swami Vivekananda mentions Pavahari Baba Ashram in his book Karmayoga.

He writes about Pavahari Baba as a great and wonderful saint of Ghazipur. He is one of the greatest Mahatmas I have seen in my life. He is an amazing person. He never preaches to anyone. Even if you ask him a question, he doesn’t answer. He is very reserved about accepting the position of a guru. If you ask him a question today and then wait a few days, one day he will raise that question in conversation and shed some beautiful light. He once told me the secret of karma.

Eight tourist destinations in the district will be developed, spiritual and religious sites in all seven assembly constituencies of the district will be developed for tourism. A blueprint has been prepared. Work will begin soon. Land is being sought. – RK Maurya, Tourism Officer, Ghazipur.
