Why changes to employee leave from January 1st?

MP: Major changes are underway in the leave schedules of over 700,000 government employees and officials in Madhya Pradesh. The Finance Department has issued a notification regarding the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services Leave Rules 2025, which will be effective from January 1st, 2026. This means that the changes to the leave schedule will be observed in approximately 35 days.

A major change has been made to the child care leave of female employees. Until now, women were given full salary along with 730 days of child care leave for two years. This will not be the case under the new rules. Under the new rules, 100 percent salary will be paid for the first 365 days and only 80 percent salary for the next 365 days.

30 Days of Earned Leave Will Be Granted

As per the new rules, employees are entitled to 30 days of earned leave per year, divided into 6 months (15 days) and 6 months (15 days). No employee will be granted leave for more than 5 consecutive years. The final decision on employee leave will now rest with the authority.

Study Leave Will Not Exceed 1 Year

Employees taking study leave will be eligible for leave. This will provide study leave for up to one year. The maximum leave allowed during their entire service will be 24 months, with the employee having to bear the fees and expenses. Employees will also be required to sign a bond before going on leave to ensure they can return to work on time.

Half pay for 180 days will be available throughout their service without a medical certificate. If the employee resigns during the same period, the leave will be treated as half pay leave and the difference amount will be recovered(changes to employee leave from January 1st).
