  • From Americans to Russians, Bengal has become the second most favourite state in India for foreign tourists… What’s the reason?

Second most favourite state in India for foreign tourists

Second most favourite state in India for foreign tourists: West Bengal has emerged as the second most preferred state for foreign tourists. In 2024, the state received 3.1 million international tourists, a 14.8% increase compared to 2023. Maharashtra remained in first place.

Why second most favourite state in India for foreign tourists?

West Bengal is rapidly becoming a favorite tourist destination among foreign tourists visiting India. According to data from the Union Ministry of Tourism, West Bengal has emerged as the second most popular destination for foreign tourists in the country in 2024. According to the India Tourism Data Compendium, the state is projected to receive 3.1 million foreign tourists in 2024, a 14.8% increase compared to 2.7 million tourists in 2023.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attributed this achievement to the state government’s various tourism initiatives. She stated that extensive efforts have been made to promote festival tourism, religious tourism, cruise tourism, and hill tourism in Bengal. She wrote on Instagram, “I am proud to share that West Bengal has now become one of the most popular international tourist destinations in the country. This is another major achievement for the state.”

How many tourists came to Bengal from the US and Russia?

According to the Indian Express, thousands of tourists from the US (80,647), Russia (79,758), the UK (77,792), and Italy (64,225) visited Bengal in 2024. It is noteworthy that there are no direct flights from these countries to Bengal. TMC MP Derek O’Brien praised the state government’s efforts.

UNESCO has recognized Bengal’s Durga Puja as a cultural heritage. The government is also trying to capitalize on this heritage tourism. Religious sites like Gangasagar, Tarapith, and Dakshineswar, as well as tourist destinations like Tajpur, Sundarbans, Darjeeling, and Mirik, are being strengthened. Homestay tourism is also being promoted.

Additionally, initiatives like the Bengal Mango Fair and the Handloom-Handicraft Expo are considered major steps toward showcasing the state’s cultural and traditional identity globally. However, in the meantime, there has been a significant decline in tourist arrivals from Bangladesh. While 2.12 million Bangladeshis visited India in 2023, this number dropped to 1.75 million in 2024.

Which state received the most tourists?

Maharashtra received the highest number of foreign tourists in India during 2024, with approximately 3.7 million. West Bengal followed in second place, welcoming over 3.1 million foreign tourists. Gujarat came in third, with approximately 2.3 million foreign tourists. Uttar Pradesh came in fourth, with 2.4 million international tourists.

  • Why is hotel check in time always 12 or 2 pm? What is the reason behind this

Why is hotel check in time always 12 or 2 pm

Why is hotel check in time always 12 or 2 pm: check-in time at hotels is not random at all. This time is determined by the entire operational process. Let’s find out the reason behind this.

Why is hotel check in time always 12 or 2 pm?

These days, it’s common to travel, travel, or stay in hotels. People book hotels according to their convenience and timing. However, sometimes when they arrive at the hotel, they find that their room isn’t completely ready. It’s a bit disconcerting for people to hear that the room isn’t ready even after booking. Why is this, and why is hotel check-in time often 12 or 2 pm? Let’s find out the answer to these questions.

The main reason behind this is the cleanliness and thorough preparation of the room. Most guests check out between 10 and 11 pm. After this, the actual preparation begins, where the room is thoroughly sanitised, bedsheets are changed, the bathroom is deep cleaned, and items like towels, soap, and shampoo are refilled. In a larger hotel, the cleaning time will be longer due to the larger number of rooms.

Why does cleaning take so long?

Hotel room cleaning takes longer because it operates as a large system, where every department has to work in coordination. Having a fixed check-in time makes it easier for the front desk, housekeeping, and management teams to plan their work. The front desk knows when guests are most likely to arrive, housekeeping can prepare rooms according to their schedule, and supervisors can conduct timely room inspections. This reduces confusion and ensures consistent service quality for every guest.

    Early check-in disrupts the system

If every guest is given an early check-in, the entire day’s schedule could be disrupted. Housekeeping will be pressured to prepare multiple rooms at once, which can lead to a decline in the quality of cleaning and preparation. This can result in guests receiving rooms that are not fully prepared, potentially leading to a poor experience. A fixed schedule helps the hotel operate in an organized manner.

With the arrival of December, the joy of winter, vacation planning, and the excitement of traveling increase. Throughout the year, amidst work, home, and responsibilities, people often struggle to find time for themselves. In such a situation, traveling becomes not just a hobby but a way to refresh oneself in this fast-paced life.

However, the biggest question that arises when it comes to traveling is budget. Not everyone can plan trips frequently, as the expenses can add up significantly. Hotels, food, travel, and local sightseeing can be a drain on money. This is why many people first save money before choosing a destination. Budget constraints often cause people to postpone their travel plans. However, every trip doesn’t have to cost 20,000-30,000 rupees.

    • Enjoy the views and weather; that’s the real fun

With a little care, a trip to Nainital for two people can be managed for under 10,000 rupees(December trip for just 10k rupees).

    Rishikesh (Uttarakhand)

If you want adventure, nature, and tranquility all in one, Rishikesh is the best place. The atmosphere here is extremely positive. The Ganga Ghats, the evening Aarti, and spending time on the riverbank are the most special parts of the trip.

    How to reach:

You can take a bus directly from Delhi to Rishikesh. Fares range from 400 to 900 rupees.

    Why go:

    • Affordable hotels
    • Ghats and Aarti
    • Relaxation on the banks of the Ganges
    • Peace and positive atmosphere

Hotels here are available for 800 to 900 rupees. Food and drinks are also affordable. So, if two people are planning a budget trip, this place is perfect. Keep in mind that it gets crowded in December, so it’s a good idea to book in advance.

  • The Red Fort blast has dealt another major blow to Jammu and Kashmir tourism, which had been crippled by the Pahalgam attack

Major blow to Jammu and Kashmir tourism, Red Fort blast

The situation has worsened following reports of Kashmiri youth being involved in the terror attack, raising concerns among tourists, a major blow to Jammu and Kashmir tourism.

Major blow to Jammu and Kashmir tourism

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir, already grappling with a tourism crisis after the Pahalgam attack, has suffered another major blow with the blast at the Red Fort. According to tourism professionals, reports of several Kashmiri youth being involved in the blast have further worsened the situation, raising concerns among would-be tourists.

The sector had shown signs of improvement in October, impacted by early snowfall and government efforts. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had expressed hope that good weather would help revive the industry after months of uncertainty. This hope was dashed on November 10 when at least 12 people were killed in an alleged suicide car bomb attack by a Kashmiri doctor in Delhi. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) said it had arrested six people, who were linked to a white-collar terror module. The group also included two Kashmiri doctors working outside the Union Territory.

Sajjad Ahmed, owner of a 20-room budget hotel in Gulmarg, said, “This is another blow for us. Visitors are very few. People are hesitant to come because of the involvement of some Kashmiris in the Delhi blast and the sudden blast at the Nowgam police station.”

Tourism had already suffered a setback after the April 22 attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran Maidan, which killed 26 people, most of them tourists. Authorities closed more than 50 tourist spots, so tourists left the valley. After a security review, about 28 of these spots reopened, and travel operators said they saw a slight increase in visitors during the holiday and festival season.

Sajjad said, “Tourism had picked up somewhat in October, but the blast has created uncertainty again.” Currently, occupancy is barely between two and five percent.’ Kashmir has seen record tourist arrivals over the past three years. Official figures show that 3.498 million tourists visited the valley last year, compared to 3.155 million in 2023 and 2.673 million in 2022. This year, before the Pahalgam attack, tourist numbers had already crossed six million, but have since declined to a few thousand, it is a major blow to Jammu and Kashmir tourism.

Despite the slowdown, industry leaders and government officials say they expect a recovery with the arrival of winter. The Jammu and Kashmir government is participating in the 56th International Film Festival of India in Goa. At a tourism event in Srinagar on Friday, Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board Chairperson Darakshan Andrabi said that winter sports could help revive the industry after major blow to Jammu and Kashmir tourism.

She said, “Tourist arrivals have been good since 2019, but recent events have led to a decline.” I hope the Khelo India Winter Games and the snowy weather in Gulmarg will attract visitors. I don’t think any hotels will be empty this winter.

Farooq Kuthu, former president of the Travel Agents Association of Kashmir and a well-known tourism stakeholder, expressed similar hopes. He said that winter traditionally sees visitors from southern states, especially IT professionals who travel during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

He said, “The Red Fort bombing was another blow to the sector, but there have been no cancellations or changes to bookings. Because of this, we are hopeful that the winter season will be better than the summer. The government’s efforts are also helping. Hope remains intact.”

    5 smart traveling hacks

In this article, we’ll share some smart tips that can make your trip easier and more enjoyable. These tips will help you pack your luggage correctly.

    Packing Your Luggage Properly

The first step when preparing for a trip is packing your luggage properly.

First, make a list and include everything you’ll need. Keep clothes, shoes, daily essentials, and other essentials together.

Try to keep your bag lightweight so you can carry it easily. Also, roll your clothes to take up less space.

    Pack Children’s Toys and Books

If you’re traveling with children, pack some toys and books to keep them entertained. This will keep children from getting bored and help them pass the time well.

You can choose small toys or books that can easily fit in your backpack.

You can also bring some games or puzzles with you to keep them happy and engaged.

    Make Food and Drink Arrangements

It’s important to make food and drink arrangements during your trip, especially if you’re traveling long distances. Carry some light snacks like fruit, nuts, or chips that are easy to eat.

If possible, bring some light food from home to refresh you and satisfy your hunger.

Wear Comfortable Clothes During the Traveling

Eight tourist destinations in the district will be developed

Ghazipur: In the coming days, Lahurikashi will shine on the tourism scene. The Tourism Department has prepared a blueprint. Eight spiritual and religious sites have been selected in the district’s seven assembly constituencies. An amount of 7.25 crore rupees will be spent for tourism development. Land is being sought. Pavahari Baba’s Ashram, located in Kurtha, Sadar assembly constituency, holds a significant place in the district. This ashram preserves a heritage of history and spirituality.

One crore rupees will be spent on this ashram to promote tourism here. Similarly, tourism development is assured with the help of Rs. 1 crore for the Ram Laxman Kuti Temple in the Zahurabad Assembly constituency, Rs. 75 lakh for the Shivalaya in Basdevpur in the Muhammadabad Assembly constituency, Rs. 1 crore for the Shiva Temple (Garib Das Kuti) in Mirdadpur in Jangipur,

Rs. 1 crore for the Parna Kuti Ashram in Saidpur, Rs. 1 crore for the Hanuman Sthal at Pareman Shah in Sevrai Tehsil of Zamania, Rs. 1 crore for the Baba Keshavdas Temple in Pakkhanpur in Saidpur, and Rs. 50 lakh for the Ravidas Temple in Padumpur in the Jakhania Assembly constituency. The Tourism Department is busy searching for land for tourism development.

Ghazipur is mentioned in Swami Vivekananda’s book Karmayoga. The district is known as the place of penance for sages and seers. The Siddha Saint Pavahari Baba lived in Kurtha. The ashram has been named Pavahari Baba Ashram after him. Before going to Chicago, Swami Vivekananda, at the behest of Guru Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, came to Ghazipur to receive initiation in yoga from Pavahari Baba. Swami Vivekananda mentions Pavahari Baba Ashram in his book Karmayoga.

He writes about Pavahari Baba as a great and wonderful saint of Ghazipur. He is one of the greatest Mahatmas I have seen in my life. He is an amazing person. He never preaches to anyone. Even if you ask him a question, he doesn’t answer. He is very reserved about accepting the position of a guru. If you ask him a question today and then wait a few days, one day he will raise that question in conversation and shed some beautiful light. He once told me the secret of karma.

Eight tourist destinations in the district will be developed, spiritual and religious sites in all seven assembly constituencies of the district will be developed for tourism. A blueprint has been prepared. Work will begin soon. Land is being sought. – RK Maurya, Tourism Officer, Ghazipur.
