    Thiruvananthapuram: The state cabinet has approved the list of public holidays for 2026, including Maundy Thursday under the Negotiable Instruments Act. Consequently, all banks and financial institutions will remain closed on that day. For establishments governed by labor laws, the Industrial Disputes Act, the Kerala Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, the Minimum Wages Act, and related laws, only the holidays specified under the Kerala Industrial Establishments (National and Festival Holidays) Act will be applicable. A local holiday has also been declared for Holi on March 4, 2026, which will be applicable to state government offices and public sector undertakings operating in New Delhi.

    Due to heavy rain and strong winds, all the schools, colleges and educational institues in Idukki, Malappuram and Palakkad districts of Kerala will remain closed on 22, October.

    All those education institutes whose students reside in hostels are are exempted from this order in Idukki, Malappuram, Palakkad district.

    The Meteorological Department has announced a red alert in Idukki, Malappuram and Palakkad. IMD said that on Wednesday rainfall will be more than 204 mm in these three districts of Kerala.

    Along with holiday on 22 October for school and colleges in Kerala, Anganwadi, madrasas and tuition centres in In Malappuram district will also remain closed.

    Water sports banned in Idukki district

    In Idukki district all water based sports, boating, rafting and coral rides have been suspended till further orders. Along with this, all adventure activities like trekking has also been banned in landslide-prone areas.This ban will continue until the red alert is removed in the district.
