    Why government cancels holidays in 7 districts?

    According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds could cause flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in hilly districts. The government has already initiated rescue and relief measures.

    The Odisha government has cancelled government holidays in seven districts as a precautionary measure amid warnings of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the state due to Montha Cyclone. Officials say that although the cyclone is not a direct threat to Odisha, heavy rainfall and strong winds are expected in many parts of the state.

    Order for govt employees

    Government officials have been instructed to immediately return to their headquarters. Collectors from Balasore to Ganjam, as well as Koraput and Rayagada districts, have cancelled the leave of government employees to ensure continuous monitoring and emergency preparedness.

    According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds could cause flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in hilly districts. The government has already initiated rescue and relief measures. This includes preparing for potential evacuations, activating cyclone shelters, and setting up relief centers in vulnerable areas.

    ODRAF actions

    Teams from the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) are on alert, while the Emergency Department has issued a dedicated helpline number for the general public. Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari held a high-level meeting with senior officials and district collectors at the Special Relief Commissioner’s (SRC) office to review preparations.
    After the meeting, Minister Pujari said, “The state government is fully prepared to face any situation.”
    Government departments such as Water Resources, Panchayati Raj, Agriculture, Health, and Energy have been directed to remain vigilant and work with the district administration to minimize potential damage. This step is being taken to prevent damage and ensure public safety from the impact of Cyclone Montha in the state.

    Bapatla, YSR, Prakasam, Nellore, Tirupati, and Annamayya districts are on Red alert list as per IMD.

    Orange Alert Districts(Cyclone Montha)

    Nandyal, Chittoor, Palnadu, Guntur, Krishna, East Godavari, and Konaseema districts are under an orange alert.

    At the time of landfall, very heavy rainfall is expected in Kakinada, Godavari, Eluru, Guntur, Palnadu, Prakasam, and YSR districts. Warning of rainfall up to 20 cm and wind speeds reaching 90–100 kmph. Cyclone Montha is likely to make landfall between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam around midnight on October 28.
