  • Standards must be set for winter travel: Harish Rawat

Standards must be set for winter travel

Former CM said – PM Modi is also repeatedly talking about winter travel and wedding destinations, standards must be set for winter travel

Standards must be set for winter travel

Dehradun. Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Harish Rawat said, “The state government must set standards for conducting winter travel. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also repeatedly talking about winter travel and wedding destinations. We are grateful to him for this.”

The success of our Char Dham winter travel depends on how it can be an inspiration. Devsthals already exist in Uttarakhand. Our Vedas say that deities reside at these places during winter, their idols are installed there, and daily prayers are performed. How can we integrate this with the people’s faith and the state’s natural beauty? The state government must set standards for this.

Furthermore, a framework needs to be developed to integrate homestays, resorts, hotels, along with mountain cuisine, clothing, jewelry, and crafts into the winter travel. In 2014, during the Congress government, we talked about starting the Char Dham winter travel. For this, an SOP was prepared so that the journey could start as per the prescribed standards.

December trip for just 10k rupees

With the arrival of December, the joy of winter, vacation planning, and the excitement of traveling increase. Throughout the year, amidst work, home, and responsibilities, people often struggle to find time for themselves. The constant hustle and bustle leaves the mind exhausted, and the body cries out for rest. In such a situation, traveling becomes not just a hobby but a way to refresh oneself in this fast-paced life.

However, the biggest question that arises when it comes to traveling is budget. Not everyone can plan trips frequently, as the expenses can add up significantly. Hotels, food, travel, and local sightseeing can be a drain on money. This is why many people first save money before choosing a destination. Budget constraints often cause people to postpone their travel plans. However, every trip doesn’t have to cost 20,000-30,000 rupees.

With a little careful planning, a wonderful trip can be had for just 10,000 rupees, especially during a popular travel season like December. Today, we’ve brought you three places you can easily visit in December for under 10,000 rupees. Hotels are affordable, food isn’t expensive, and local transportation is pocket-friendly.

Most importantly, these places offer peace, beautiful scenery, and the cold all at once. Whether you’re a couple, planning a trip with friends, or traveling solo, this travel list is perfect for you.

    Kasol (Himachal Pradesh)

Kasol is a small but beautiful hill station in Himachal Pradesh, famous for its snow-capped views, serene atmosphere, and crisp winters in December. You won’t find the hustle and bustle of big cities here. Quiet cafes, riverside accommodations, and the cool morning breeze in the mountains will make your trip memorable.

    How to Reach:

Take a Volvo bus from Delhi to Bhuntar, which costs between 700 and 1200 rupees. Local buses or shared taxis are available from Bhuntar to Kasol, which are much cheaper.

    Why it’s special:

    • Snowy valleys
    • Peaceful atmosphere
    • Best for couples, friends, and family
    • Less crowded

    Budget-saving tips:

    • Take a night bus to save on a day’s hotel fare
    • Choose a guest house or homestay instead of a hotel; they’re available for 500 to 800 rupees
    • Eat at local eateries or stalls; cafes can be quite expensive
    • Pack a power bank, water bottle, and snacks

If planned properly, a 2-3 day trip to Kasol can easily cost 10,000 rupees.

    Nainital (Uttarakhand)

Nainital is a popular hill station and a favorite destination for couples. Its lakes, cool weather, mountains, and clean surroundings captivate the heart. The weather here becomes even more beautiful in December, but if expenses are not kept under control, the budget can be ruined.

    How to reach:

Take a bus from Delhi to Haldwani or Kathgodam, then take a local taxi or bus to Nainital.

    Special Features:

    • Lakes and boating
    • Cool air
    • Peaceful atmosphere
    • Beautiful viewpoints

    Budget-saving tips:

    • Travel by bus; trains and taxis are expensive
    • Take a night bus to save a day on hotel accommodations
    • Don’t overspend on boating and other activities
    • Enjoy the views and weather; that’s the real fun

With a little care, a trip to Nainital for two people can be managed for under 10,000 rupees(December trip for just 10k rupees).

    Rishikesh (Uttarakhand)

If you want adventure, nature, and tranquility all in one, Rishikesh is the best place. The atmosphere here is extremely positive. The Ganga Ghats, the evening Aarti, and spending time on the riverbank are the most special parts of the trip.

    How to reach:

You can take a bus directly from Delhi to Rishikesh. Fares range from 400 to 900 rupees.

    Why go:

    • Affordable hotels
    • Ghats and Aarti
    • Relaxation on the banks of the Ganges
    • Peace and positive atmosphere

Hotels here are available for 800 to 900 rupees. Food and drinks are also affordable. So, if two people are planning a budget trip, this place is perfect. Keep in mind that it gets crowded in December, so it’s a good idea to book in advance.

  • Uttarakhand: This year, such a huge influx of devotees gathered at the Char Dham shrines… even the administration was surprised!

huge influx of devotees gathered at the Char Dham

Uttarakhand(huge influx of devotees gathered at the Char Dham shrines): A record number of over 5.1 million pilgrims visited the 2025 Char Dham Yatra. Now, with the doors closed, the focus is on winter pilgrimage, which will boost the local economy.

Huge influx of devotees gathered at the Char Dham shrines

Uttarakhand’s Char Dham Yatra reached new heights of faith, belief, and enthusiasm this year. This six-month-long spiritual journey broke all previous pilgrimage records.

So far, over 5.1 million pilgrims have visited the four Dhams during the 2025 Yatra, significantly exceeding the 4.8 million last year. This unprecedented influx of devotees has taken the Char Dham Yatra to new heights.

Badrinath Dham will close for the winter season on November 25th

The Yatra began on April 30, 2025, with the opening of the doors of Yamunotri and Gangotri shrines. This was followed by the opening of the doors of Kedarnath on May 2nd and Badrinath on May 4th. Like every year, this year too, the four holy shrines witnessed a massive influx of devotees. Currently, the doors of Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri shrines are closed, while Badrinath shrine will close for the winter season on November 25th.

During the winter season, the Devasthanam Board and the administration conduct pujas at the four holy shrines at their winter seat sites. Meanwhile, the government is placing special emphasis on promoting the Winter Chardham Yatra, ensuring that devotees remain connected to the spiritual environment year-round and the local economy is strengthened.

17.68 Lakh Devotees Visited Kedarnath This Year

The biggest attractions of the pilgrimage this year were Kedarnath and Badrinath shrines, where a record number of devotees arrived. Kedarnath received 17.68 lakh devotees, significantly higher than last year’s figure of 16.51 lakh. Meanwhile, the number of devotees at Badrinath shrine reached over 16.52 lakh, compared to 14.35 lakh last year. These figures have further strengthened the popularity of religious tourism in Uttarakhand.

Although disaster-induced conditions in Uttarkashi district impacted the pilgrimage to Gangotri and Yamunotri, resulting in relatively fewer devotees reaching there, 7.58 lakh pilgrims visited Gangotri and 6.44 lakh pilgrims visited Yamunotri. Meanwhile, 2.74 lakh pilgrims visited Hemkund Sahib.

The administration is rapidly working to popularize the pilgrimage.

The 2025 Chardham Yatra was historic in many ways as huge influx of devotees gathered at the Char Dham shrines. Not only did the number of devotees increase, but significant steps were also taken to improve the facilities, security, and management of the pilgrimage. Now, the administration is rapidly working to popularize the winter pilgrimage, so that devotees can experience the spiritual experience of the Devbhoomi with ease and safety in every season.
