West Bengal government holidays 2026
The West Bengal government has released a list of holidays for employees. This includes over 100 holidays, including weekends and festivals. 52 Saturdays and 52 Sundays will also be included. Four days off will be available for Durga Puja.
Mamata Banerjee’s government has released the holiday list for 2026 (Holiday List 2026). Employees will receive over 150 holidays next year, including Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath Puja. The holidays are divided into three separate lists. All holidays listed in List 1 have been declared public holidays. The holidays listed in List 2 have been declared by the state government. All West Bengal government offices will be closed on these days, except for the offices of Assurance Kolkata, the Collector of Staff, and Revenue.
A holiday will be available for Mahalaya on October 10th next year. Offices will also be closed on October 19, 20, and 21. Some festivals fall on Sundays, which will be public holidays. This list includes five: Shivratri, Durga Puja, Maha Saptami, Lakshmi Puja, Kali Puja, Chhath Puja, and Birsa Munda Jayanti. There will be two sectional holidays in the state.

Over 150 Holidays
West Bengal government employees are entitled to 27 holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act. The state government has issued an order for 26 additional holidays, bringing the total number of holidays to 53. This will include 52 Saturdays and 52 Sundays, bringing the total to 104. Consequently, employees will have to work 43% of the time throughout the year.
Two Sectional Holidays
Easter Saturday will be a holiday on Saturday, April 4, for members of the Christian community. Hul Day will be a holiday for the tribal Santhals on Tuesday, June 30. Guru Ravidas Jayanti falls on Sunday, February 1. That is why it has not been included in the list.
How many holidays will be available in January-February?
Employees will be given leave on January 1st for New Year celebrations. There will also be holidays on January 12th for Swami Vivekananda Jayanti, on January 23rd for Netaji Subhash Chandra Jayanti/Saraswati Puja, and on January 26th for Republic Day. The state government has also declared a holiday on January 22nd, a day before Saraswati Puja. There will be no public holidays in February. The state government has declared holidays on February 4th for Shab-e-Barat and on February 14th for Thakur Panchanan Barma Jayanti. Maha Shivratri is on February 15th, which is part of the public holidays.
