Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that India has immense potential to become a major winter tourism destination and praised the steps taken by the Uttarakhand government in this regard.
In his monthly ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio address, Modi said that until three years ago, fewer than 2,000 tourists visited Adi Kailash, while now this number has increased to over 30,000.
He said that many countries have developed successful tourism models around winter sports and activities such as skiing, snowboarding, mountaineering, and ice climbing.
The Prime Minister said that India, with its diverse landscapes and mountainous regions, is in a strong position to develop such opportunities.
He urged countrymen to consider the Himalayan regions when planning their vacations, as these regions offer memorable experiences during the winter season.
“During winter, the Himalayan valleys become an experience that lasts a lifetime. If you’re planning a trip this winter, don’t forget to consider the Himalayan valleys,” Modi said.
