Manali: The weather in Himachal Pradesh is dry, but the cold wave has intensified. The cold has intensified in Lahaul-Spiti, including Kullu and Manali. The sunshine brings some relief, but as soon as the sun sets, people are shivering.

Severe cold has caused streams and waterfalls in Lahaul-Spiti to freeze. In Lahaul-Spiti district, all the waterfalls flowing through the Rohtang, Shinkula, Kunzum, and Baralacha passes have frozen solid. The banks of the Chandrabhaga River have also begun to freeze.

Lahaul residents Tashi Ram, Sonam, Dorje, Paljor, and Deepak reported that temperatures in the tribal district have begun to drop below freezing, causing rivers, streams, and drinking water sources to freeze. They explained that they have begun stockpiling essential supplies for the winter season.

To avoid a shortage of essential supplies during the snowfall, people are stockpiling rations, wood, and other essential items for three to four months.

Leh Highway Closed, Vehicles on the Kaza Road will be Stopped

On the other hand, vehicular movement on the Leh Road has been stopped, while the Kaza Road will also be stopped on November 24th. People in the Spiti Valley will now be able to travel to Kaza from Shimla via Kinnaur and Samdo until Kunzum is restored in May-June. Only Rohtang and Shinkula Passes Reopened

Currently, the Rohtang and Shinkula Passes are open to vehicles. The administration has advised travel only when the sun is shining. Tourists are especially advised to exercise caution. Frost on the road poses a risk of vehicle skidding.

Deputy Commissioner Issues Advisory

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Lahaul Spiti Kiran Bhadana stated that sufficient food and fuel have been stored for the winter. People are also storing essential items and firewood on their own. Kunzum Pass will be closed to vehicles from November 25th. He urged people not to travel on the Kunzum route, including Manali-Leh.
