The week beginning Monday, October 27th, is marked by numerous festivals in various states. Chhath Puja and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Jayanti, the Kannada Rajyotsava, are also being celebrated during this time, which will also result in bank holidays. Banking operations will be affected. Banks will be closed for five days throughout the week. However, these closures will not be uniform across the country. Holidays will be state-wise. On the occasion of Chhath Puja, banks will be closed in Kolkata, Patna, and Ranchi on Monday, October 27th, followed by a holiday in Patna and Ranchi on Tuesday, October 28th. Thus, banks in the capital cities of Bihar and Jharkhand will be closed for four consecutive days, including the preceding weekend holidays. Chhath Puja is a festival dedicated to the Sun God and is celebrated with great devotion in Bihar, Jharkhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh, and Nepal. Devotees fast, bathe in holy rivers, and offer prayers to the setting and rising sun. This year, the festival will be celebrated from October 25th to 28th.

Banks will be closed in Ahmedabad on Friday, October 31st. This day marks the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He played a key role in the freedom movement and became the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister after independence. Banks will also be closed in Bengaluru on Saturday, November 1st, for Kannada Rajyotsava, the anniversary of the formation of the state of Karnataka. On the same day, banks will also be closed in Dehradun for Igas Bagwal, a festival celebrated 11 days after Diwali in Uttarakhand.
It is believed that when news of Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya reached Garhwal, people celebrated their delayed Diwali, or Igas Bagwal. Banks will be open in the rest of the country on November 1st, as it is the first Saturday. Banks are usually closed on the second and fourth Saturdays. Then there will be a weekly holiday across the country on Sunday, November 2.
